I like this poem.

Beth Nyland

Day 249 prompt: Nuts

packing a lunchbox
is so much harder
than it used to be

we must protect
the children
who have an allergy

oust the strawberries
eliminate fish
gluten must be cut

no more tomatoes,
dairy or eggs …
and banish every nut

  1. Hi Josh. Thanks for sharing my poem on your blog! These few lines were borne out of our morning challenge to assemble lunches and snacks that meet the increasingly stringent rules for what my daughters can take to school. I could get really testy about it … but because one of my own kids is allergic to all nuts, I just sigh and put on my thinking cap. Fortunately, pickles and grapes are still approved in both of their classrooms!
